MARVEL Future Fight ©Copyright by Gamdise Do not Reproduce. By JoJo
This is a game affiliated directly with Marvel Entertainment, which had certain benefits to the game’s features. One of those features involves an entirely new and immersive story arc that includes all fan-favorite characters. It has managed to fuse virtually all of the characters from the movies and comic books, both heroes and villains. It is also done under Disney’s patronage, so the game truly looks good. It is available for both single and multiplayer. And the Marvel characters seem to be faithful to the source materials, additional clothing and cosmetics are optional, making the game more interesting.
CHARACTERS
There are more than 200 playable characters. They are organized into 3 tiers: tier 1 can go up to level 60, tier 2 till level 70, the same for tier 3 and potential transcendence. They each hold battle types that have advantages over one another except universal type. A completely mastered character can move to the second tier, although exceptions for some characters exist. Certain characters can have their potential realized and leveled up to 70, subsequently the third tier. The player begins with a party of 3 characters, of which the player controls one. They can be switched at any time.
GAMEPLAY
The core idea here is picking sets of characters – hero or villain – and leveling them up as you go. You send your characters out on missions in groups of three to fight, gain experience, and unlock new characters. Actually, you usually unlock biometrics, which is then used to unlock the new characters. Attacking is carried out by a primary attack button you tap, with your character automatically targeting a nearby enemy. You can easily switch between nearby foes, however, by flicking the virtual joystick in a direction that faces the enemy you want to hit. Every character has two additional skills as well, which are both on short cooldown timers.
Speaking of skills, each character begins with two and can unlock more as they level up. These special attacks often look spectacular, like something out of a console fighting game, and they have simple cooldowns that tell you when they can be used again. Also, when a player uses an ability or a default attack, the currently controlled character will lock onto the nearest enemy, so no abilities will be wasted completely. If there are no enemies, any ability used will automatically lock the character towards the next checkpoint in an auto-pathing manner.
MICROTRANSACTIONS
Marvel Future Fight supports microtransactions and offers them on every step of the way, including packs, special limited-time deals, and similar stuff. Using real-world cash, you can purchase crystals, which are the primary in-game currency used in Future Fight. Crystals can be spent on several different things, but you’ll likely primarily spend them on Dimension Chests. These chests will randomly offer up Hero Biometrics, which can lead to unlocking new characters, or ISO-8 of varying rarity, which can be equipped to heroes to enhance various abilities. Crystals can also be used to purchase energy, consumed when attempting missions, and gold, used for upgrading skills and gear.
However, the game itself is completely free to play, and, for the most part, you do not need any microtransactions to be successful or competitive. I found that paying will not make you an instant winner in Future Fight, it ultimately just fast forwards progress for a while. Spending real money in-game is mostly oriented towards cosmetics (character costumes) and for people who want to own the most characters and level them up fast.
REVIEW
I’m pretty impressed with how fun and engaging Marvel Future Fight is, and I think if you garner any enjoyment from the Marvel Universe, you’ll like to enjoy this well-built free-to-play title. Its gameplay is very well adapted to the source material, the characters themselves are a faithful representation of the originals, and the storyline is something new to enjoy. Although it includes in-app purchases, it will not affect the player's gaming experience at all. You don’t have to spend a single dime one it to have fun!
