Marvel Puzzle Quest is a free game that uses iconic comic characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man. Although like many other games, its core is a match-3 puzzle game, it's the surrounding content and balance that make it notable. You have a three-person team composed of Marvel characters, and then this team faces an enemy team of similar size, and the battle begins. In the battle, you and your opponent take turns matching colored gems, they can be used as your attack, but also can accumulate resources for special attacks. Each character has a unique special attack, which can range from powerful blows to rearranging the board, giving you some room to develop a strategy, who to participate in the battle, and which gems to prioritize first. After each battle, instead of gaining experience to upgrade, you will receive one of two different in-game currencies or character comic book covers. The comic book covers are used to enhance each character's special attacks, while the currency allows you to upgrade a character for each cover you collect.
As is the case with practically every free-to-play game these days, the in-game currency is doled out at a snail's pace, so building up your team of heroes is a slow process. Of course, for people who want to use cash shortcuts, in-app purchases exist, but I found that Marvel Puzzle Quest is very fair in terms of rewards. Although I am usually very sensitive to in-app purchases, I find the structure here very satisfactory. I have no difficulty filling my team with winning prizes, so my role has grown steadily. The character of KO will be healed in a reasonable time, or it can be healed immediately through the free regeneration health pack. Upgrades or additional treatments need to pay a certain price, but I never need anything beyond what the game provides.
For the die-hard Marvel fan, the game will be worth playing. The use of Marvel characters is great, the special moves are deeply satisfying, allowing the characters to fill the screen with crowd-pleasing animations.
